Whether it's song discussions based on favorite lyrics or incorporating movement and live music creation, we adapt each session to meet the unique needs of our clients. • Music therapy utilizes music to address individualized goals through various interventions led by board-certified music therapists. These interventions include instrument play, music-based mindfulness, lyric discussion, and songwriting, aiming to achieve objectives such as self-expression, stress reduction, and emotional awareness. Music offers a playful and creative avenue to engage individuals in addressing challenging tasks and topics. With the support of a board-certified music therapist, music therapy techniques provide a channel for emotional expression and may enhance communication skills in an enjoyable and motivating manner, particularly when words are insufficient.

  • If you’re interested in music therapy at Empower, schedule a 20 minute free consultation. After your consultation with one of our staff members, you will be prompted to schedule an initial assessment. This is where your music therapy journey begins! During an initial assessment, an Empower team member will meet with you in person or virtually and get to know a bit about your background, musical interests, and the goals you are working towards. From there, the Empower team creates a “plan of care” tailored to your interests and goals. After reviewing the plan of care, you may book sessions with your assigned clinician on a weekly, every other week, or monthly basis.

  • Yes! Being affirming to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) individuals is part of our core value of inclusivity at Empower. Beyond being kind and compassionate with our clients with diverse identities, we understand that sexual and gender identities are not choices that can be pathologized or changed and celebrate however our clients identify. Additionally, our office is a safe space for client’s who may be questioning or confused about their sexual orientation or gender identity.

  • We offer music therapy to everyone, no matter their religion or cultural background. Sessions are customized around the values and preferences of each client. Although we are not a religion-based practice, if a client values listening to music from their religion, the music therapist may incorporate this into their session to meet the individual’s personalized therapeutic goals. For ethical reasons, an Empower music therapist would not bring religious music or discussion into session unless prompted by the client.
